The Lacey and Larking Frontera Fund is a foundation that has played a great role in transforming the lives of the Hispanic people who are based in Arizona. The organization’s founders, Jim Larkin and Michael Lacey started it after they were awarded a $3.75 million settlement by the Maricopa County for being illegally detained by Sheriff Joe Arpaio.
The two philanthropists are renowned journalists, and they used to inform the public on the wrong doings of the sheriff through the Village Voice Media and the Phoenix News Times. Michael and Jim have been using the organization to ensure that activists have sufficient funds to conduct their undertakings.
The charity foundation has been supporting Justice for Immigrants & Families since its inception. The primary goal of the organization is to make sure that the immigrants who live in Arizona get justice.
More than 325,000 undocumented immigrants currently live in the state, and they have always had a problem accessing affordable legal services whenever they face deportation cases. Many low-income individuals have been tried without being represented by attorneys. JIF links immigrants with excellent pro bono attorneys. Promise Arizona has also been a beneficiary of the Lacey and Larkin Frontera Fund. The charity was established in 2010 and has been advocating for immigrant rights since the approval of the SB 1070 legislation.
The law led to the several hostilities against Hispanic immigrants who lived in Arizona. Paz and a couple of activists led the anti-SB 10-70 prayers that were held at the Phoenix state capitol for more than 100 days.
The SB-1070 law was abolished by the court and Arpaio was held accountable for his unconstitutional policies. Paz ensured that the voice of the immigrants was heard by leading demonstrations in different parts of Washington and Arizona.
In 2013, Paz organized protests that resulted in the closure of Washington, DC streets. This caused the arrest of its executive director, Petra Falcon. Promise Arizona is greatly acknowledged for its significant accomplishments.
They include negotiating with the Obama administration to change immigration legislation, fighting for transparent cover registrations, advising young immigrants to register for the DACA program, and training young leaders to the ensure that there is civil interaction.
Paz is committed to developing the immigrant youth into the future leaders who will make Arizona habitable to all types of people. It visits Hispanic communities in their homes and motives them to be great people.
